What is the single fastest track you can take to become a Master Prospector? It’s simple: study and model the Masters of Prospecting!
Consider yourself twice the student than the teacher.
When you are in the company of Master Prospectors, use the techniques you learned in Master Prospector Secret #6 about modeling and mirroring in reverse.
Apply all of the material you learned about building rapport to your study of the Masters of Prospecting. Focus first on the outside stuff: the way they walk and talk, everything. Focus on the details and then mirror and model what you have observed.
Warning: This is not about cloning someone else. All I’m suggesting is that the Master Prospectors have learned many ways of being and behaving, all stemming from successful experiences. So why reinvent the wheel? Maybe some of that same behavior can work for you.
Wake what they show you and try it on for size. The rule is simply this: if you like the shoe and it fits – wear it. And if it feels good to wear it – perhaps a certain way of speaking, a particular posture or behavior – then make it your own. And if you can’t find a way to “own it”, throw it out.
Just check it out. see what it looks, sounds or feels like before you pass judgement.
You have got to be you – that’s why you have to own it.
All Master Prospectors are mentors. Pick a few Master Prospector mentors from whom you want to learn. Ask them to be your mentor. Study them. Ask questions. Build a relationship with your mentor.
One thing you can do to make your mentor relationship work from the start is to show your prospective Master Prospector Mentor that there is something in it for him or her if they mentor you. Think what you would be willing to trade for their time and teaching. If you are in their network and on their level of payout that benefits them when you work your business, consider making a commitment to a higher level of performance and ask for their partnership. If he or she is not in your upline, create another benefit that shows them that you are willing to return the favor.
Self mastery is not about being like someone else – it’s about discovering and bringing out the best in you!
The more qualities you want to possess, the more mentors and role models you will need, and the more diverse and balanced your life will become.
If I can leave you with something that will bring this message home, let it be this:
True Masters are teachers, not gurus with followers.
True students are future Masters, no followers of gurus.
Always be a great student, never a follower!
Action Steps:
1. Who are the current mentors in my life?
2. Who are the potential new mentors in my life?
3. What qualities do all of these mentors have that I desire to have?
4. What do I plan to do to study my mentors more actively and master these qualities for myself?
