build rapportAll master prospectors have a magical genie that helps them build rapport. What would you do if you find and old lamp on the beach? Would you rub it to see what happens? Let’s say you do, and viola, a magical genie jumps out, saying, “Greetings Master! Your wish is my command! What is your wish?”

You say, “Genie, show me my amazing network marketing team in 5 years time. I think it will be very inspiring to see that.”

So the Genie get’s to work and viola, ala kazaam, there it is. You look down on this amazing group of people. There are leaders all over the place teaching and training. All happy, bubbly, lovely and positive people happily building their own successful network marketing business.

The Genie leans over and say, “You are right Master, this is very inspiring!” and you say, “who are these lovely people, I don’t know any of them? They are all strangers to me.”

“Ah Master, that is the magic of network marketing!”


Why build rapport?

The reality is that you probably have not met the future leaders in your network marketing business who are going to lead your network 5 years from now. Network marketing is a very dynamic business structure.

Most people who join network marketing think that they are going to reach the top in the company by building their business with their friends and family; people they already know. However, the reality is that most of your friends and family won’t join you in your business. I know it’s sad, but it’s true. Someone might just spare you the agony and tell you that up front.

Luckily it’s called network marketing, and not family marketing!

It’s the only form of business where anybody can come into the business and outgrow people who have been doing it for years.

It’s the only form of business where the most unlikely of people can come in and build huge networks of people, reaching the pinnacle in their network marketing company.

The question is this: If you know this fact now, up front, as if been shown by a magical genie, what will you do with this information?

How will you treat strangers? Every new person you meet, might be the future star of your business. You don’t know. I don’t know. They don’t know. It’s just the way it is. We cannot tell upfront who it’s going to be. As I said, sometimes the most unlikely candidates step up to the plate and hit home run after home run whilst your superstar, the person you thought would surely be your next diamond, fizzles out after the first hot day. The fact is, anybody can be successful in network marketing and we do not know up front who will and who won’t. Only time will tell.

The Master Prospectors know these facts. Therefore they treat each new person that they meet, no matter who they are, as if they are their next diamond superstar. Master Prospectors know how to make every person feel like they have a shot at being successful. How do they do it? They build rapport.


 

How Master Prospectors build rapport

Master Prospectors know that first impressions last. Therefore they do everything in their power to make the best first impression that they possibly can. They instantly build rapport with everyone they meet.

As a future Master Prospector you must learn the art of creating instant rapport and making positive first impressions with everyone you meet.

As John says, “You only have one chance to make a positive first impression. We have all heard this many times before, and for good reason. And when you realise that you have yet to meet your future superstars, the power of the first impression becomes even more important.”

We have to learn to “build rapport” instantly.


 

How to build rapport with strangers

The great thing about strangers is that they don’t know you. You start with a clean slate. You decide what you want your first impression with them to be like.

Let me ask you this:

If you are highly positive and professional when you meet a new person, what will their impression of you be? Their impression of you and your product and the company that you represent will be positive and professional.

Now, if you are negative or doubtful when you first meet with them, what will their impression be of you, your product and your company? That’s right! Not good!

Guess what? You have complete and utter control over how you represent yourself when you offer your gift – your product and your opportunity.

But before you can offer your gift to a stranger, you must first build rapport with him, otherwise he will not be open to receive your gift.

Building rapport takes practice – and lots of it. It’s all about your people skills. The great thing about people skills is that it can be learned. People will join you if they know, like or trust you.

The purpose of the rapport building process is to get people to know, like or trust you. If you build rapport instantly, people will instantly feel like they know you. They will like you. They will be open to hear what you have to say.

To open someone’s mind to your presentation, you must first build rapport. The person you are speaking to must first make a connection with you.

Now a lot has been said and written about NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) and it’s beyond the scope of this article to explore the subject. Suffice to say that I highly recommend that you make a study of NLP, especially the mirroring and matching techniques that will assist you when you meet new people and assist them to warm up to you as a person. Body language is about 80% of your communication. Learn to use it to your advantage and to read your prospect. The better you can read your prospect’s body language, the better you can build rapport with him or her.

However, even if you do not use one NLP technique, but you just present yourself in a friendly, positive and professional manner, the battle is half won.

Now even the Master Prospectors encounters people who are by their very nature negative and wallowing in it. You say, “good day!” and they say, “hmnf”.

When you open that oyster with your brightest smile and all you get is an oyster with a bad attitude because you opened it in the first place, just gently close it up again and put it back where you found it. Remember, there are 10 pearls in every 100 oysters. Keep shucking oysters. Know your job.

Remember the serenity prayer? Pray for serenity to accept the things you cannot change (empty oysters with bad attitudes), courage to change the things you can change (your own attitude, the way you present yourself, your first impression, how you build rapport, how you deliver your presentation) and the wisdom to know the difference.
