This chapter in the book 17 Secrets of Master Prospectors is the gateway to the tools Master Prospectors use.

Maybe it is time to polish up that old pick and shovel of yours.

Now, because you and I have become such good friends, I’m going to share my treasure with you.

You, my friend, can have all the gold you want. I truly don’t care how much you take, because my mine is full of gold – lots and lots of gold.

I’ve only got one condition: You can only go into my gold mine once, and come out once. That’s all. You have only one opportunity to prospect for all the gold you want. Fair enough?

So tell me, what tools will you bring with you to my gold mine?

Will you bring only your basic pick and shovel?

What will you use to carry away your gold – a saddle bag, a bucket, a horse and cart?

Would you show up at my gold mine with old, beaten-up, worn-out tools?

Would you only bring a hand-held bucket to carry your gold away in?

Of course not. If you’re the kind of person I think you are – the kind of person who would be reading a book about the success secrets of the Master Prospectors – I expect you’d show up with a tractor trailer or three, a team of helpers, bulldozers, dynamite and more. And that’s the whole point of this secret.

You know, this story is a lot like prospecting in Network Marketing. Many times we only have one chance, just one fleeting opportunity with a prospect – the opportunity to uncover a fortune.

John then continue to discuss the number one tool that Master Prospectors use: Business Cards

Business cards must me memorable, professional and most of all, in your pocket at all times.

Business cards in color and with a color photo of you are the most effective.

Now, keep in mind that this book was published in 1994! I think you would agree that a lot has changed since then. We got the Internet. We got YouTube. We got faster internet connections! (Do you still remember the old dial-up connections?) Oh my goodness. Those were the dark ages!

The Modern Master Prospector learn to adapt and stay with the times.

Don’t get me wrong, I still believe that tools like business cards and the rest of the tools that John discusses in the rest of the book are great. However, with technology to our avail, the way in which we use these tools have improved quite a lot. More about that later.

For now, I want you to extend your business card to your email signature. That’s right. You are sending out many emails a day. Email marketing is a whole new subject, and I might focus a future seminar on email marketing as there are some big do’s and some big don’ts when it comes to email marketing.

For example:

• You want your emails to get opened.
• You want your emails to get read.
• You want your emails to get acted upon.

For now, work on a professional email signature with a photo of you.

1. Have I done everything possible to look, sound and feel like I’m in business? (Or do I and others, see me as a hobbyist at best?)
2. What more can I do to project a professional image of both myself and my business?
3. Knowing that in most cases I only get one opportunity to prospect a person, what tools can I have at the ready to help me make a lasting, positive and professional connection?
