Increase Your Metabolism to Burn More Body Fat.
Everybody knows that metabolism is the rate at which your body burns energy. However, most people are under the misconception that your genes determine your metabolic rate. The truth however, according to Dr David Heber, is that your metabolic rate is dependent upon how much muscle you have. You can therefore boost your metabolism to burn more body fat, if you know how to increase your lean body muscle.
(Compulsory legal disclaimer: These results are not typical. Individual results will vary.)
We all hate excess body fat. It’s an ugly sight!
The good news is that we can do something about it. Each one of us has his or her own “fat burning process” going on inside of us 24/7; called our metabolic rate. Our bodies need calories (the measurement for body energy) just like a car needs fuel. The rate at which your body burns these calories, is called your metabolism, or metabolic rate.
Your resting metabolic rate (RMR), also referred to as your basal metabolic rate (BMR), is the rate at which your body burns energy (calories/kilojoules) at rest. This is good news, as your body burns fat while you are sleeping. Your RMR contributes to about 75% – 85% of your body’s daily energy consumption. If your BMR or RMR is 2000, that means your body needs 2000 calories just for maintaining it’s basic functions at rest like controlling your breathing, heart rate etc. The amount of calories your body needs to maintain your current weight, is approximately your BMR x 1.15. If therefore your BMR is 2000, you will need to eat 2300 calories to maintain your current weight. If you want to lose weight, you have to consume less than that. But that is only one part of the equation.
However, if you want to turn your body into a long term fat burning machine, you need to pay close attention to what I am about to share with you.
Now, as you know, some people are known to have a fast metabolism or high metabolic rate, and others a slow one. Everyone knows that if you have a high metabolic rate, you usually do not struggle to burn body fat. You are one of the lucky ones that can eat and eat and never gain an ounce.
Others however, like me, have a slow metabolism, and hence our body’s ability to burn these calories we eat, does not function as well. Consequently a lot of the calories we eat are not consumed by this supposedly raging calorie burning fire inside of us. Instead, it flickers like candle light in the wind! Not fair. For years I blamed my ancestors, as I too believed that my metabolism was ruled by my genes. Not so, says Dr. Heber. You can take control and boost your metabolic rate to burn calories more efficient.
Turning your body’s metabolism into a raging body fat burning fire!
Anybody can boost their body fat burning capabilities by simply building more lean body muscle. Apparently, “each pound of muscle, burns about 14 calories per day”, says Dr Heber.
Everybody says that we build muscle by doing weight training, or resistance training. Just pump those irons, right? Well, yes and no. If you do weight training in the hope of building muscle to burn more calories, you will only succeed if, and only if, you take on board enough protein to sustain and increase healthy lean muscle tissue. If you don’t, your muscles mass will decrease and you will actually slow down your metabolic rate. This is body building 101.
Choose a good quality protein supplement and start doing 30minutes of resistance training per day. You will turn your body into a long term fat burning machine!
* Most people find it near impossible to eat their required protein factor proteins without supplementation.
Tips to increase your metabolism to burn more body fat:
- Eat enough good quality protein. You can use our protein estimator to see how many grams of protein you need. Roughly, take your weight in pounds and divide it by 2. That is more or less how many grams of protein you need to consume every day in order to maintain your current muscle tissue.
- Have a balanced diet that includes good quality carbohydrates. Avoid refined foods. Aim to eat 3-5 different kinds of fruits and vegetables. A good tip is to go for a variety of colors.
- Get enough sleep.
- Do not skip meals. This causes your metabolism to slow down.
- Ensure to include good quality protein in your breakfast.
- Have smaller portions, but eat more regularly. This keeps your metabolism going. It’s like feeding a fire in regular intervals.
Your body’s fireplace – How to keep the your fire burning those unwanted calories.
The analogy between your metabolism and a fire, is actually very helpful. Think of it this way. If you start a fire and you want to keep it going, what will you do?
You will first of all get it going with good quality kindle (carbohydrates), but not too many.
Then you will add good quality fire wood; something that will burn a long time and keep giving off enough heat and flames and make long lasting coals to keep the heat up. This is your good quality proteins.
And every now and again, you will just add another piece of your quality wood to keep it going, right?
However, if you skip meals, your fire will go out and you will have to start all over again to get the fire going. You don’t want that. 🙂
Here’s a short video by Dr Heber, explaining the facts and myths about metabolism:
In the Herbalife products we found a fantastic source of good quality soy protein. Not only that, it also contains all the other nutrients our bodies need to function at it’s optimum rate and be as healthy as it can be.
By using the Herbalife program and doing moderate exercise, you can turn your body into the ultimate metabolic fat burning machine. Permanent weight loss could not be easier than that.
