1. Throw away that scale! No, not really. You need it to weigh your luggage before you go on holiday. However, don’t get onto it so much. We recommend taking your measurements. This is more important than your scale. You may be retaining water which makes you appear heavy. You are still losing fat. You might find your clothes are looser and you need a new wardrobe. Great excuse for new clothes!!  My friend, Andrew, a personal trainer, is classed as obese according to the BMI guide. He is totally ripped, abs to die for. He is slightly heavier for his height because he is packed with muscle. He looks amazing. You see, the scales are lying again!!

2. You might not be eating enough! (or enough of the right stuff).  If you are consuming too few calories, your body thinks it is starving.  This may also happen if you are not getting enough nutrients.  It will hold onto fat and make your weight loss stuck!  Your minimum intake should be roughly 1200 for women and 1800 for men. Please note that this differ from person to person and is a guide.  Lets say you, as a woman, are consuming 1200 calories but still you are not shifting the weight.  You may be needing 1300-1500 calories.  This depends on your metabolism and how active you are.  Please note that eventually you will lose weight if you keep up with an unhealthy low calorie regime. You will be lacking nutrients and go to the other end of the scale of being anorexic.  Alternating higher calorie days with low calorie days might help. As an example try alternating 3 low days with 1 high day.

3. You may be sleep walking, eating unconsciously……What I mean is that you may be consuming more calories than you think.  A food journal could help.  Be mindful of hidden sugars.  Drinking Fruit Juice as a healthy option, may be jeopardising your weight loss.  What about eating too much fruit?  Just like alcohol, too much of something can be bad for you.  I add water to my juice, which reduces my sugar intake.  And be careful of unconscious unhealthy snacking. Have the steak, just don’t have the cow!!

Remember the closer you get to your ideal weight, the slower you’ll burn calories.  I like to think of it like this – my body is using less energy to move my lighter frame.  This may mean I have to eat less calories. I may have to increase my lean muscle which in turn will burn more calories.  I personally prefer to increase my activity and lean muscle.  I feel healthier and have more energy when I consume enough calories.
