In this book review, we will be looking at the 17 Secrets of the Master Prospectors, written by the late John Kalench. The book was published in 1994. John Kalench was one of the best network marketing trainers of his time. Everyone knows that mastering these prospecting secrets, will help you to sponsor and recruit more people yourself and it will enable you to teach your team how to apply these 17 secrets of master prospectors in their businesses as well. So if you learn it well, you can teach it to your team. It’s a win-win situation for you.

 


 

Introduction to 17 Secrets of the Master Prospectors

17 secrets of the master prospectorsJohn studied the Master Prospectors of the time and distilled what he called the 17 secrets of the master prospectors. Over the next 17 days, we will be studying these so-called secrets of the master prospectors.

Prospecting obviously refers to recruiting or sponsoring of new members into your network marketing business. Sponsoring new members into your team, is the lifeblood of your business. Without growth in your team numbers, your business is stagnant at best.

In the 17 Secrets of the Master Prospectors, John identified three types of people. In which category do you fall?

Group One: Those who like to prospect.

They enjoy it and are comfortable with it. It comes naturally to them. this group are well on their way to becoming master prospectors.

Group Two: Those who are uncomfortable with prospecting, but they do it anyway.

These people do not like prospecting for new distributors, but they do it anyway, because they are serious about their business and they know the importance of injecting new blood into their business. Prospecting to them is like going to the dentist. Not a pleasant thought, but they do it because they know it is good for them.They are focused on getting results and being successful.

What this group quickly discover is that the more they prospect, the better they get at it. As a result, they truly begin to enjoy prospecting and soon move over to Group One.

Group Three: Those who don’t like prospecting at all.

Like group two, the thought of prospecting is not only uncomfortable to them; but they dread doing prospecting. It does not come naturally at all – it is a frightening prospect to them! If their reason for doing network marketing is not very strong and if their goals and ambitions are not pulling them strongly, they will choose to do very little prospecting. With little or no prospecting, no new life blood will be injected into their business and their business will die. Consequently, success continues to elude them.

It does not matter in which group you are. Everyone has the ability to move from group three to group two and from group two to group one…and if they apply the 17 secrets of the master prospectors, to become masters themselves.

Get Comfortable with the 17 Secrets of the Master Prospectors

The KEY training tip that John teaches in his introduction, is for us to get comfortable with each of the secrets. If at first you find the idea of prospecting uncomfortable, you need to get comfortable with the idea. In other words, how you feel about prospecting is the area where you have to work on first.

In your mind you must stop dreading prospecting. Stop those negative feelings that you get every time someone mentions prospecting to you. Get real clear on your goals and why prospecting is so important for your business and your future. Get comfortable with the idea of becoming a great prospector.

So by the way, what do prospectors do? That’s right; they prospect!

It is so important in this industry that we not prejudge people. Most network marketing superstars started out as the most unlikely to succeed. If you would have looked at them before they started in Network Marketing, you probably would have thought there is no way that they can do network marketing; look at them!

Well my friends, chances are when you are shown a diamond in the rough, you probably won’t know that you are looking at a diamond. To the untrained eye it might look like just any old rock. But to the master prospector, it is the most beautiful thing to behold. The master prospector sees the rough diamond for what it really is; a diamond. All it needs is to be shaped and polished. That is the job of the master prospector! To prospect until they find a rough diamond, and then to help shape and polish that diamond to be all that he or she can be.

The trouble is, most rough diamonds have forgotten who they really are! Because they look like ordinary rocks and lives amongst ordinary rocks, they start believing that they too are ordinary rocks! One of the first jobs of a master prospector is help clean up the diamond; to shape it and polish it; to constantly remind it that it’s in fact a diamond…just a little more shaping and a little more polishing and soon the whole world will see your splendor!

If you are reading this article, I’m willing to bet my bottom dollar that you are in fact a diamond in the rough! Deep down you know it. You might have forgotten, but deep down you know that there is so much more to you than you current life. You know you were destined for more. You know that there are dreams and goals that life has buried under the dust and rubble. If you are still reading, know this: you are worthy! You are worthy of all the success that this world has to offer.

Network marketing do not discriminate. Network marketing does not care about your past or your present. It does not care about your age or your skin color. It does not care about the size of your bank account. All it cares about is you and your potential to be whomever you want to be.

Becoming a master prospector in network marketing will put you into a financial position to truly be who you want to be and do what you want to do.book

But as John said in one of his earlier books, Being the Best you can be in MLM, you must first learn to BE before you can DO before you can HAVE. After all, we are human BEings, not human DOings or human HAVings. That brings us back to our mindset.


If you want to master the 17 Secrets of the Master Prospectors, you have to start with your MINDSET

You must cultivate the mindset of the person who you want to be, before you can actually be that person. In other words, you must first become comfortable with being that kind of person, before you will be that person.

So, if you would like to become a millionaire, then you first need to become comfortable in your mind about being a millionaire. You won’t believe it, but being a millionaire scare the “bejeepers” out of most people.

Everyone knows that most people who win the lottery, lose their winnings within 5 years. This is tragic. One of the major reasons for this is the fact that they were not mentally prepared to be a millionaire. Hence, when they won, they dominating thoughts and feelings they had were not that of being successful and happy, but being scared! Scared of losing the money. Why? Because although they might be an overnight millionaire, they have never gone through the process of becoming a millionaire. Only people who go through process of becoming a millionaire will be truly happy with the money. Why? They are not scared of losing it. As a matter of fact, they can comfortably give it all away because they know, they can just make another million. Why? They have become worth a million dollars. They have developed the skills of a millionaire along the way. What you BECOME in the process is more valuable than what you get in the end.

Write the following down on a piece of paper:

I [your name] am a Master Prospector in the making. I am comfortable with prospecting. Each and every day that I practice my prospecting skills, I am becoming better and better at it. Each day I like prospecting more and more. I love prospecting for new members. I love discovering new diamonds in the rough. I love helping to cut, shape and polish those new members to be the shining diamonds they deserve to be. I am a great prospector. If I am not going to find them, nobody else might, and that would be a tragedy. I am a courageous prospector. I shall learn the “17 Secrets of the Master Prospectors” and apply it to my business daily. I owe it to myself and my loved ones to become the best me, that I can possibly be.

Now read this statement out loud every morning and every night (with emotion!). Do this for the duration of this series on the 17 Secrets of the Master Prospectors.
