Most people have tried some or other diet in their lifetime. Everybody knows that fad diets don’t work. You get on a diet. You lose weight. You get off the diet. You gain weight. Everyone knows that yo-yo dieting does not produce permanent results and may even be harmful to your health.
Diets cut your daily calorie intake, forcing it to be lower than the amount of calories your body burns, and thereby forcing your body to lose weight. Everybody knows that the food today is not nearly as nutritious as the food of 50 years ago. We have to consume almost double the quantity of food to get the same amount of nutrition. That’s one of the reasons that obesity is so prevalent. We are forced to eat more and more, and in turn we get less and less nutrition. When you diet, you cut back on an already nutrient deficient food supply. You are literally starving your body cells to death, just to lose a little bit of weight!
All doctors know that your body has a certain amount of proteins that it needs every single day. Most people, just eating normally, do not get their required daily intake of proteins. If they then go on one of these diets, they usually cut their protein intake even more, leaving their bodies protein deficient.
Some of these crazy fad diets only focuses on reducing the daily calorie intake, with no regard for your overall health and well-being. Because these diets contain very little nutrition, and almost always lacks in vital nutrients for normal healthy function of your cells, they end up damaging your body cells. These body cells are starved of vital nutrients in order to lose weight. Your lean muscle cells will begin to break down and become less and less effective.
Over the short term you will therefore lose weight on the scales, but because you are depleting vital nutrients and proteins, your metabolic rate will slow down. Your body will be burning less and less energy, and store more of it as fat cells. You are now gaining weight again. You just traded healthy lean muscle for the sake of losing a few pounds on the scales. This is why yo-yo dieting is so dangerous to your health.
