If you want to lose weight, you need to consume less calories than your daily requirement on a consistent basis.
WARNING: If you only reduce your daily calorie intake to below that required by your body, without supplementing the nutrients you lose in the process, you will damage your healthy body cells, including your lean muscle cells. Not only will you harm your health, you will also regain your weight and more, as your metabolic rate will slow down and your body will store more and more fat.
Remember, your body’s minimum calorie requirement is your RMR. Consuming less than that, is harmful to your health.
This brings us to a more commonly known term – your Body Mass Index, or BMI for short.
Your BMI is a measure of your body fat based on your height and weight.
It’s only a robust estimation, but it gives a good indication of whether or not you are overweight, underweight, normal or obese. Most of us do not need a BMI reading to know we are overweight! For that we have mirrors and photographs!
BMI is a useful measure of overweight and obesity. It is an estimate of body fat and a good gauge of your risk for diseases that can occur with more body fat. The higher your BMI, the higher your risk for certain diseases such as heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, gallstones, breathing problems, and certain cancers.
Although BMI can be used for most men and women, it does have some limits:

What the Results Mean
Based on your BMI calculation, you can determine your classification based on the chart above. Individuals with a BMI value of 25 and higher may be at increased risk for certain obesity-related health conditions as mentioned above.
The food quality around the world is atrocious.
Even the foods labeled as “healthy” in our super markets, contain loads of sugar, artificial chemicals, salts and generally lacks the nutrients it should contain.
There are many reasons for this. Here are some:
The net result is that most people are over fed, and under nourished at the same time. This means they consume a lot of “empty” energy (calories/kilojoules). Junk foods and fizzy drinks are high in sugars, saturated fats, salt, refined carbohydrates etc. These foods are typically very high in calories/kilojoules, but almost completely nutrient deficient. As your body cannot really use these calories, it get stored as fat.
The truth is this: If you are not on a diet that supplements all the nutrients that your body cells need to function at an optimum level on a day to day basis, you are almost guaranteed to lack certain of these vital nutrients.
Weight gain can be healthy or unhealthy, depending on where on the BMI you are. Healthy weight gain (for people who are underweight) is achieved by following a diet that builds up the muscle tissue and at the same time provides more energy than the daily required (BMI). Diets cut your daily calorie intake, forcing it to be lower than the amount of calories your body burns, and thereby forcing your body to lose weight. Everybody knows that the food today is not nearly as nutritious as the food of 50 years ago. We have to consume almost double the quantity of food to get the same amount of nutrition. That’s one of the reasons that obesity is so prevalent. We are forced to eat more and more, and in turn we get less and less nutrition. When you diet, you cut back on an already nutrient deficient food supply. You are literally starving your body cells to death, just to lose a little bit of weight!
All doctors know that your body has a certain amount of proteins that it needs every single day. Most people, just eating normally, do not get their required daily intake of proteins. If they then go on one of these diets, they usually cut their protein intake even more, leaving their bodies protein deficient.
Some of these crazy fad diets only focuses on reducing the daily calorie intake, with no regard for your overall health and well-being. Because these diets contain very little nutrition, and almost always lacks in vital nutrients for normal healthy function of your cells, they end up damaging your body cells. Over the short term you will therefore lose weight on the scales, but because you are depleting vital nutrients and proteins, your metabolic rate will slow down. Your body will be burning less and less energy, and store more of it as fat cells. You are now gaining weight again. You just traded healthy lean muscle for the sake of losing a few pounds on the scales. This is why yo-yo dieting is so dangerous to your health.
Healthy weight loss requires that you lower your calorie intake, whilst still providing your body with the quality proteins, vitamins, minerals and nutrients it needs on a daily basis.
You deserve to be healthy, like everyone else. Doctors and dietitians say that to be healthy, you have to eat healthy and exercise.
