Day 18: Do you have the ability to respond well? (90 Day Video Blogging Series)
Is the ability to respond a gift or is it a skill? If it’s a gift, we should all pray to receive it. If it is a skill, we should all actively seek to acquire it.
Your responsibility is your ability to respond under a specific circumstance. Have you found yourself in a situation where you responded by doing or saying something, and then later you regret have done or said it? We all have. Or you walk away and then all of a sudden, what you “should have said” pops into your mind, but then it is too late…
I am sure you know the feeling. There is a way to cure that. The skill is to create a short pause between the stimulus and your response. During that brief moment, you consciously think, “what is the best way to respond.”
Some people say, bite your tongue. Think before you speak. Unless you have acquired the ability to choose your response, you will step into it every time.

Day 18: Do you have the ability to respond?
Responsibility is not only taking ownership of the consequences that flows from your actions. That is a big part of it. But working on your responsibility making this a more pleasurable experience, is to ensure that you create better outcomes.
You are in life because of something you did, or didn’t do. Not God. Not your relatives. You. Stop blaming everyone and anything outside of you. If you want different results in your life, take personal responsibility for your own life.
Your ability to respond better when you are confronted with temptation (if you are for example on a weight loss program) is the key to your success.
Your ability to respond right when you work on your nutritional habits
Just as you create a “pause” between the stimulus and your response when you react to someone, you create a pause between your thought of doing something (like taking a second helping of food or eating junk food) and your actions of stuffing it in your mouth.
Just before it reaches your mouth…STOP. Ask yourself: Is it worth it? If yes, go ahead. If not, do not feel obligated to stuff it down your throat in anyway. Put it down. Spit it out if you have to. Every time you do this, you get stronger. Before you know it, you will automatically make the right decision.
To your happiness, health and prosperity!
